There’s lots to see and do at the National Wool Museum this summer.
If you have an animal lover in the family, don’t miss The Wildlife Photographer of the Year 53 exhibition, now on at the National Wool Museum until 13 May, 2018.
Chosen from over 50,000 entries, the final 100 extraordinary images celebrate the diversity of the natural world, from intimate animal portraits to astonishing wild landscapes.
The National Wool Museum has the following sessions running over the school holidays – free for kids under 16-years-old when accompanied by a paying adult. Adult tickets are $9 or $7 concession and include entry to the incredible Wildlife Photographer of the Year 53 exhibition and wool galleries.
Pop-up wildlife cards
Drop-in from 10.30am until 12.30pm on 15, 16 and 17 January and make your own pop-up wildlife cards.
Animal shadow puppets
Drop-in from 10.30am until 12.30pm on 22, 23 and 24 January and craft an animal shadow puppet. You’ll also bring your shadow puppet to life in the shadow theatre.
The Little Prince – Family Show
The fabulous and enchanting story of The Little Prince has been re-adapted to combine stories, songs, games, crafts and lots of fun. The program leads children on a journey of discovery and imagination.
Friday 15 December: 9.30 am–10.30am, 11am–noon and 2pm–3pm.
Wednesday 20 December: 9.30am–10.30am, 11am–noon and 2pm–3pm.
18 January, 2018: 2pm–3pm.
Cost: Children $10 (adults free of charge). Suitable for children 2-10 years.

Wildlife Workshops
Family photography adventure – Botanic Gardens, 18 January, 2018, from 10.30am to noon.
Bring the whole family on a photographic adventure around the Botanic Gardens using your smart phones and tablets. You’ll be guided by educators from the Botanic Gardens and National Wool Museum as you capture images and learn about the fascinating flora found right here in Geelong. Bring along a picnic and have a fun family day out.
Cost: $25 for four people, $7 additional people (kids five years and under free).
Special package: $45 for four people, includes workshop and entry to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 53 exhibition at the National Wool Museum, $10 for additional participants.

Design, shape and decorate a colourful felt bowl.
Upcycled printing, flora and fauna patterns.
25 January, 2018, from 10.30am until noon.
Learn fun techniques to design your own patterns and print on a calico bag or pillow case.
Family Sunday at the National Wool Museum – wildlife crafts, 21 January, drop-in between 1.30pm and 3.30pm for crafts.
Craft with the family in this relaxed session where you’ll explore a range of techniques to create wildlife-inspired items.
Cost: $9 adult/$7 concession, kids free with a paying adult.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year 53
Tour in French, Sunday 21 January, 10.30am–11.30am for beginners, 11.30am–12.30pm for intermediate.
Brush up on your French and explore the WPY53 exhibition with native French-speaking teacher Marie, the National Wool Museum’s learning and programs officer.
Cost: $15 per person ($12 for Alliance Francaise/NWM members).

Wildlife Photography Masterclass
With Wildlife Photographer of the Year 52 finalist, Doug Gimesy, Saturday 10 February, 9.30am to noon.
The aim of this interactive class is for photographers to develop a better understanding of what to consider when trying to capture memorable wildlife/nature photographs.
Suitable for adults or older teens with prior experience using the manual functions of a DSLR camera. Please visit nwm.vic.gov.au for more information and pre-attendance requirements.
Cost: $40 adult/$30 concession – active participants, $20 adult/15 concession – observers.
