Medela is reminding customers of a breastpump recall made due to safety issues with power adaptors.
The voluntary recall applies to Medela breastpumps purchased prior to October 2016.
The company has warned that, in rare cases, the detachable wall plug that comes with the pumps could break exposing two metal terminals and creating a risk of electric shock.
The power adaptors were sold as a stand-alone product, and were also supplied with the following models of Medela breastpump: Medela Swing, Medela Swing Maxi and Medela Freestyle.
Medela has posted about the recall on Facebook to remind customers to check whether their breastpump power adaptor is subject to the recall.
It is not a new recall, but a reminder of the recall issued in 2016
It is an important reminder to customers who may have one of the breastpumps stored in a cupboard awaiting their next baby.
“If you purchased a Medela Personal Use breastpump after October 2016, or if you have already had your detachable wall plug replaced by Medela Australia then there is no need for further action,” the company posted on Facebook.
Not all detachable wall plugs are affected. There are three types of wall plugs. The one affected has no markings on the back.
Medela advises that if the detachable wall plug has a white dot or markings on the back, then it isn’t affected and doesn’t need to be returned.
