Australia’s favourite baby names have been revealed, with Oliver and Charlotte continuing their reign at the top.
Oliver has been the country’s most popular boy’s name since overtaking Jack in 2013, while Charlotte has been the top pick for girls three years in a row.
The royal family and gardens influenced our choice of baby names in 2018, according to a new report by McCrindle.
There were just over 300,000 babies born in Australia last year. Around one in 10 newborns were given a top 10 baby name.
For boys the top 10 names were: Oliver, Jack, William, Noah, Henry, Thomas, Leo, Lucas, James and Liam.
For girls, the top 10 picks were: Charlotte, Olivia, Amelia, Ava, Mia, Isla, Grace, Harper, Chloe and Willow.
ROYAL INFLUENCE
The name Louis is already becoming more popular following Prince Louis’ birth in 2018, jumping 14 places to 59th.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte have significantly contributed to the popularity of these names.
George has jumped 37 places on the chart since the prince’s arrival in 2013 (now 34th), while Charlotte overtook Olivia as the most popular baby name when the princess was born in 2015.
BOTANICAL THEME
When it comes to girl names, parents are using the botanical theme as a source of inspiration.
