GSC wants everyone to be safe around water this summer

Geelong Swimming Club fosters a love of swimming.

Summer is upon us and we all want to enjoy the water, whether it’s in our back yard pool or at one of the many beaches we are fortunate to have on our doorstep.

Learning to swim is a vital life skill and the Geelong Swimming Club (GSC) has been fostering a love of swimming across the Geelong region for 140 years and wants everybody to enjoy the water safely this summer season.

GSC Learn to Swim offers an engaging and competency-based program that caters for all abilities.

The curriculum is developed in conjunction with Life Saving Victoria and has a strong focus on water safety skills to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity.

The program also develops strong and effective swimming techniques.

The swim school’s dedicated and highly skilled teaching team all have a passion for fostering the love of swimming and teaching children swimming skills for life.

“The sport of swimming builds confidence and encourages a healthy and active lifestyle for young people across the region,” GSC president Glenn Benson said.

“We deliver a program of excellence.”

In addition to its swim school, GSC has 200 competitive swimmers training each week. The club and GSC Learn to Swim prides itself on its family friendly atmosphere and inclusive culture.

Head coach Aaron Tenabel is a former Australian Dolphin who strives to create pathways for young people to achieve their potential in their chosen aquatic sport.

The club caters for more than just competitive swimming; offering pathways into the numerous aquatic sports including cross training for surf lifesaving, water polo and open water swimming.

Meeting the needs of the community is a priority for GSC and it has recently introduced an adult fitness squad.

The club also offers learn-to-swim lessons and squad training for swimmers with disability, some of whom travel from Melbourne to participate in the highly-regarded award-winning program.
